In the year 2023, Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny has done two things right: dating Kendall Jenner and his new album.
Bad Bunny's 'Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana' is a new and unique album, one that is different in style and theme from his previous ones. In the album, we take a tour of Bad Bunny's life as he navigates fame and new experiences all across the globe.
Compared to his previous work, this album has been criticized. as not containing elements of the past, but this should be supported rather than criticized. We are able to get a new glimpse into his musical prowess, and better understand where he comes from as an artist.
But first, let's talk about the album's unique style. In his last and most successful album, 'Un Verano Sin Ti,' Bad Bunny's focus was on fast-paced and part-oriented music.
Rather than slow and methodical songs, the album consisted of songs worthy of being replayed at parties and clubs across the entire world. With two of the most famous tracks on the album 'Titi me Pregunto' and 'Party,' both extremely fast-paced songs made for parties, it is clear to see this theme throughout the album.
In contrast to that theme, 'Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana' takes a new approach, one that is more calm and methodical. Missing the key party element of the previous album, Bad Bunny contrasts his expansive musical talent through the two different themes of the albums.
Songs such as 'Monaco' and 'Nadie Sabe' both exemplify this new theme that Bad Bunny is attempting to take, one that best describes his life and the way he chooses to express himself.
In this way, it is understandable why his fans might criticize the album: they miss the party music. But for me and for many listeners, this album is a breath of fresh air.
Taking away from the focus of gatherings, this is an album best enjoyed when listened to alone, where one can really focus on making a connection to the lyrics and their message. Lots can be taken away from the album, which is why Bad Bunny chose the change in style and expression in contrast with his previous work.
Apart from the change in theme, the album's message is nothing short of emotional.
Each track has been meticulously crafted to evoke emotion and an emotion that best connects to his roots. Growing up in Puerto Rico, becoming famous, and escaping his previous situation, Bad Bunny has been able to transform this very experience into words. Of course, his previous several albums have done the same, but this one is different.
The title, translated in English means: "Nobody knows what will happen tomorrow." The title and message of the album is uncertainty, something that Bad Bunny faced at the start of his career where he had no idea if people would pick up and enjoy his music.
Thankfully he succeeded, but now this album serves as a mirror and reflection of that journey in which we better understand his struggles and connect with him on that level.
Overall, the album earns a Joseph Score of 87/100. It's not his best album by any means, but it is very good for anyone looking for more relaxed rap that exemplifies their culture and experiences in the music themselves.
Bad Bunny has consistently created magnificent albums, and this year, he has outdone himself once more.
